Advertising boards will be banned in Douglas town centre - despite an admission from Douglas Council that trading conditions are "still challenging".
The council will no longer issue licences for the A-boards from June 30th.
From this date boards will not be permitted on public highways - the council claims they "add nothing of value" to the town centre regeneration.
It says the boards - which are often used to advertise services or special offers - do not contribute to growth in retail activity or project a welcoming image.
The Manx Blind Welfare Society has welcomed the decision saying they pose "yet another obstacle" to people who are blind and partially sighted.
