Treasury Minister Alf Cannan says local firms get every opportunity to tender for government building contracts - unless there are special circumstances.
In the House of Keys, he faced questions from Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper about whether all government jobs are passed on to the Island's list of approved contractors.
Mr Cannan said they are, unless the work is granted an exemption called an FD8 waiver.
He said that system seemed to work well, but added he'd be happy to look into any problems:
