The Infrastructure Minister says revealing a school bus fare hike earlier would have seen parents stocking up on low-price journeys.
In the House of Keys this week Tim Crookall MHK faced questions from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse about the 25 per cent rise.
Mr Crookall said the fare rise announced last month didn't come into force until after the announcement was made.
But he said he didn't want to let parents know too early:
