Nationalists gather for Illiam Dhone commemoration

Nationalism is a growing movement and is supported by many people born outside the Isle of Man - that was one of the messages at today's Illiam Dhone commemoration.

The event saw more than a hundred nationalists gather at Hango Hill in Castletown to mark the 350th anniversary of the Manx martyr's execution.

Dhone, whose English name was William Christian, was killed by English parliamentarians in 1663.

The event also marked the 50th anniversary of the Manx republican party Mec Vannin.

Speaking at the commemoration, its president Bernard Moffatt said the party had always been inclusive and continued to encourage non-Manx-born:
