The Communications Commission is set to introduce new laws that could help tackle online cyberbullying.
The Communications Bill has been more than two years in the making, and deals with regulations for broadcasters and telecommunications.
One section, however, says sending grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing messages - or messages known to be false - would become criminal offences.
Anybody found breaking the law could face six months in prison or a fine of up to £5,000.
