Officers say concerns have been raised about the Houseparty app, which allows friends to chat through text or video and only users are able to add people they already know through Facebook.
The constabulary says while there are often no issues and the program is relatively secure, if a child doesn't 'lock' their chatroom and choose private settings others can join the conversation.
Therefore, authorities are asking parents and carers to read more about the app and show youngsters how to sort privacy filters to keep their chats private and safe.
A link with more information has been made available on IOM Constabulary's Facebook page.
