This year we're bringing our Hop tu Naa celebrations to a grisly head with a screening of John Carpenter's classic The Thing, starring Kurt Russell.

A research team finds an alien being that has fallen from the sky and is apparently hunting them down. Things take a sinister turn when they realise that the creature can assume the form of its victims, meaning everyone is under suspicion.
At the peak of his powers, Carpenter orchestrates proceedings masterfully. The menace of the dark polar night and the confines of the base are utilised to ramp up the fear and paranoia to unbearable heights. With a fast-moving story, excellent special effects and a soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, The Thing is a claustrophobic study in what happens to a group when fear reigns supreme.
