Constabulary 'heartbroken' over death of former officer

The Islands Chief Constable, Gary Roberts, says the constabulary is 'heartbroken' after Coronavirus claimed the life of a former officer.

Authorities confirmed 57-year-old Richard Lloyd passed away yesterday afternoon at the Intensive Care Unit at Noble's Hospital after contracting COVID-19.

Mr Roberts has described Mr Lloyd as a 'wonderful man' who was 'kind, caring, brave, loyal and utterly dedicated to public service'.

The Chief Constable adds his heart goes out to Mr Lloyd's wife, Glen, and son, Andy, and that "we will miss him enormously, as will his many friends".

'Richie' served for thirty years as a police officer, both with Merseyside Police and the Isle of Man Constabulary and spent the majority of his service here before retiring as a sergeant in September 2012.

Flags on Constabulary buildings will be flown at half-mast. Officers will stand in respect for Richie Lloyd at 12 noon on Easter Monday.
