The Island's fire service and coastguards are asking people not to light sky lanterns during the weekly 'clap for our carers'.
The plea was prompted after reports of people encouraging others to light them in appreciation of key workers.
Firefighters say lanterns could cause fires or even kill animals and livestock, whereas coastguards say they are extremely difficult to tell apart from red distress flares.
A report of a red light will result in the tasking of a Coastguard team.
People can make as much noise as they can, but should stay safe and not light sky lanterns.
