Tynwald to consider Coronavirus support

New laws could be passed later offering financial help to anyone having to self-isolate because of rules around Coronavirus.

Tynwald meets for its March sitting this morning and Treasury Minister, Alf Cannan MHK, is putting forward legislation which would allow those self-isolating to claim incapacity benefits from day one.

If approved, the rules would also temporarily extend the time people can self-certify for sickness to two weeks.

Mr Cannan is also looking to approve adding £40million to the Islands contingency fund in the wake of new emergency measures from government to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, there are also 46 questions for the court to consider - the session will get underway at Legislative Buildings in Douglas from 10.30am.
