Majority of e-mails reported to anti cyber-crime service had malicious software

Nearly 70 per cent of suspicious e-mails reported to a anti cyber-crime service had malicious software connected to them.

The Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS) was launched in late October allowing people to let authorities know of e-mails which don't seem legitimate - the messages are then checked over by authorities.

The initiative, from The Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance (OCSIA) is being done in partnership with Manx Telecom as part of efforts to reduce the impact cyber crime can have on Island life, residents and businesses.

In an update, those behind the service say of the 794 e-mails reported to officials so far, 68 per cent of them had malicious links.

Meanwhile, they're continuing to encourage people to send any suspicious messages they receive to sers@ocsia.im.
