OFT offers gift advice ahead of Christmas period

Christmas shoppers are being offered advice from the Office of Fair Trading about returning festive gifts. 

With just under a month to go the OFT is reminding shoppers not to throw away receipts for purchases in case the gift breaks or is unwanted. 
 
It says the consequences of not having a receipt could mean not receiving the full price of the product as it might be in a post-Christmas sale. 
 
Chief inspector John Peet says proof of sale is also important if the person returning the product isn't the original buyer - as shops have no obligation to take back goods without it:
