Seven on trial over by-election offences

Today marks the start of the trial into allegations of election offences carried out in the 2010 Douglas East by-election.

55- year old Charles Lewin, 24-year-old Kerry Rothwell and 25-year-old Catherine Liggins face charges of theft, conspiracy relating to proxy votes, forging of public documents and corrupt election practices.

50 year old Geoffrey Callister is also charged with forging documents with intent to deceive.

19 year old Marc Bonser, 21 year old Mark Weir and 38 year old Gail Corrin have all denied three conspiracy offences.

The trial is expected to run for a maximum of 35 days, with Deemster Turner presiding over proceedings.
