Attorney General legislation passed in Keys

The House of Keys has passed new legislation concerning the Attorney General this morning.

Despite it being the first Tynwald of the year, Keys sat at 9.30am to discuss the Law Officers Bill.

It was put forward by Chief Minister Allan Bell who asked for all three readings to be taken at the sitting – something which doesn’t normally happen.

The Bill serves two purposes – it allows the Queen to appoint an Acting Attorney General and makes provision for the discharge of the functions of the Attorney General.

The Island’s current Attorney General is currently suspended.

The Legislative Council will be asked to oversee the first reading of the bill at 1.45pm today, in the Tynwald lunch break.
