Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot says recent visits to the Castle Mona haven't shown the building is deteriorating.
In the House of Keys this week, he was quizzed by Garff MHK Daphne Caine about the state of the disused hotel in Douglas.
Mr Boot said although a number of visits have been carried out over the past five years, not all of these were about the building's condition.
He also said preserving the hotel has been the Department's main priority.
