The Chief Minister wanted to learn 'first hand' the current thinking on Brexit during his trip to Brussels.
That's according to Howard Quayle - last week he met with UK government, industry and European Parliament representatives and Brussels think tanks.
He says it was important to 'build and maintain' networks of partners in the UK and Brussels to ensure we understand international events.
Mr Quayle says moving forward work includes looking at new relationships, participation in trading relations as well as looking at risk and opportunity and constitutional impact of the withdrawal:
