Chief Minister's partner convicted of drink driving

A Bride man has been convicted of drink driving after being found 'driving weirdly' in a supermarket car park.

45-year-old Stephen Rego appeared before the Deputy High Bailiff at Douglas Courthouse today where he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police stopped him in his black Renault Clio in Shoprite car park on Bowring Road in Ramsey at 2.40pm on Friday.

Officers found he was unsteady on his feet, his movement was laboured and he smelt of intoxicants - a breathalyser test at Police Headquarters revealed he was almost three times over the legal limit.

Rego's partner - Chief Minister Allan Bell - attended court with him this morning.

Social enquiry and mental health reports have been requested before Rego is sentenced on August 16th - he's been bailed in the meantime.
