Council to sell off Tramway Terrace

Selling the horse tram stables and Tramway Terrace is not a decision which has been 'made in haste'.

That's according to Douglas Borough Council which has put the 0.4 acre site on the promenade up for sale.

It says selling the infrastructure off will open up possibilities to 're-purpose' the Strathallan Building so it can be used as a tram store and stabling for the horses.

It's part of a consolidation programme following the council's decision to scrap the service and hand it over to the Department of Infrastructure - the Strathallan building will be part of the handover.

Douglas Council says it would never have been viable to sell the cottages on their own and to renovate them would have required 'heavy investment' from ratepayers.

It claims selling them off will help 'reinvigorate' the stretch of Douglas Promenade and reduce the financial burden on the ratepayers of Douglas who should 'ultimately benefit from the sale proceeds'.
