DHSC reveals 30 percent increase in alcohol related hospital admittances

The number of people going to hospital with alcohol problems spiked by around 30 per cent last year, according to statistics.

A freedom of information request to the Department of Health and Social Care asked how many people have been admitted to Noble's Hospital since 2014 because of alcohol abuse.

In 2015, the figure stood at 1,058 - but last year that total leapt to 1,333.

So far this year, the department says 990 people have been hospitalised for problems such as acute drunkenness, liver disease or gastritis.
