    Draft abortion bill changed

An MHK's draft Abortion Reform Bill has been altered after feedback from the public.

Ramsey MHK Dr Alex Allinson produced a private member's bill earlier this year in an attempt to change the legislation on abortions on the Isle of Man.

The bill was introduced in the hopes to end the plight of women forced to travel to the UK for the procedure.

Dr Allinson says although most responses were in favour of reform there were criticisms; and the new bill should now reflect all public opinions.

The changes include removing old language and out-dated terms, more information for counselling, both on off-island, and support in the event there are abnormalities in early pregnancy.

The bill will be put before Isle of Man Parliament in January 2018; and Dr Allinson says he now hopes there can be a mature and intelligent debate.
