    Efforts underway to divert young people from crime

    Young people on the Isle of Man could be given more support as part of efforts to divert them away from a life of crime. 

    The Department of Home Affairs says it wants to increase the Youth Justice Team's remit - it currently works with people up to the age of 18. 
     
    New plans are in place to see support from the multi-agency public protection unit extended for people aged up to 25. 
     
    Figures from the latest annual report show there were 287 referrals made to the team between March 2015 and April this year - they concerned 167 individuals. 
     
    The Youth Justice Team says it wants to focus on alternatives to prosecution including prevention, restoration and integration - Neil Craig is a detective inspector:
