Freedom of Information impact assessment to be carried out

In the House of Keys this morning Chief Minister Allan Bell said it would be irresponsible to introduce a freedom of information law without first clarifying how much public money it will cost.

He was responding to a question from South Douglas MHK, Kate Beecroft.

The Ramsey MHK has said he has proposed an impact assessment exercise which would look into the finer details and implications of such legislation.

So far the only cost indications have come from an assessment in Jersey, which estimated implementing the act would cost an initial £5.6m with an annual running price tag of £1.3m

Minister Bell said it would be given high priority and a full statement will be made in the February sitting of Tynwald.
