Inquest hears man died from heroin overdose

A man who died from a heroin overdose was left for hours because his friends didn't realise he was dead

42-year-old Terence James Riley, of Mona Drive in Douglas, died in the early hours of January 7 this year.

The inquest into his death resumed at Douglas Courthouse yesterday.

Mr Riley's friends told the hearing he'd been with them in their flat for a session of heavy drug use.

The court heard they were on the couch when they noticed he was unresponsive after a phone rang.

Witnesses told the court Mr Riley had a habit of sleeping with his eyes open and so they didn't know anything was wrong.

Consultant pathologist Dr Irvine Long said Mr Riley had died from an overdose of the drug he was addicted to.

Coroner of Inquests John Needham recorded a verdict of accidental death.
