Island led the way with plastic money says Minister

Plastic bank notes were trailed by the Isle of Man three decades ago - so why are they now being introduced in the UK?

Scotland's Clydesdale Bank has issued two million of the polymer £5 notes - which it says are a durable alternative to the standard paper variety. 
 
The bank is one of three in Scotland to release them to mark the 125th anniversary of the construction of Forth Bridge - the Bank of England is looking to introduce them next year.
