Island placed on red weather warning

The Island has been placed on a red weather warning as it prepares for storm force winds to hit.

Severe gales and heavy rain are expected between 3pm this afternoon and 6am on Sunday.

Gusts of up to 85 miles per hour could cause disruption to travel as well as damage to trees and some buildings.

Outbreaks of rain will also develop which are likely to cause further flooding because the ground is already saturated.

Emergency services are asking people to avoid making non-essential journeys tonight and during the day tomorrow.
