Jail for Czech drug trafficker who hid cannabis in wardrobe

36-year-old Jan Broza was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse yesterday after previously pleading guilty to possession of the Class B substance with intent to supply. 

 

Police raided his flat on Nelson Street in Douglas on the evening of April 15th - they found a large quantity of cannabis including 65 bars of resin hidden in his bedroom. 

 

After forensic examination the total weight of the drugs was recorded as 6,251.1 grams - the cannabis had an Isle of Man street value of just over £33,000.  

 

In his basis of plea Broza said he'd been give six kilograms of the drug to sell by an unnamed contact saying he wasn't benefitting commercially but was allowed to take a small amount for himself. 

 

His advocate told the court Broza was selling a drug to which he was addicted saying that addiction had made him 'very vulnerable'. 

 

Sentencing him Deemster Mongtomerie told him "you played an important role - you housed the drugs, you sold the drugs and then you transferred the proceeds." 

 

Describing the unnamed individual as 'Mr Big' he added "you were clearly a vulnerable person - the kind of person Mr Big will use to carry out his dirty work." 

 

Sentencing him to 14 months at the Isle of Man Prison he told Broza "you have clearly made a big mistake in getting involved in drug trafficking".
