Jersey slam Bowl pitch ahead of final

The final is due to take place on Saturday, April 28 at the Bowl in Douglas

Controversy has broken out ahead of the Isle of Man’s biggest football match in years.

They are due to play old rivals Jersey in the final of the Inter-League Cup later this month but today it’s emerged the Channel Islanders are not happy about playing at the Bowl.

Their manager Craig Culkin has told Jersey’s national media the Isle of Man would have an unfair advantage playing on the artificial surface in Douglas.

Culkin said the wheels were 'already in motion’ about trying to get a new venue arranged as they’re insisting on playing on a grass surface.

He added: ‘We’ll have to wait and see what decision is made; if we’re told we have to play on it then we will go and do that, but at the moment it is not what we want to do.’

Jersey won their semi-final in front of just 300 fans in St Hellier on Saturday, as many as 3,000 Manx supporters are expected to attend the final.
