    July unemployment figures see increase

    July’s unemployment figures saw an increase with a high number of returning students signing onto the unemployment register.

    At the end of the month unemployment stood at 1017, representing a rate of 2.3%

    During the month 255 signed on and 230 signed off, giving an increase of 25 in the total
    registered unemployed.

    It was also identified that the spike was down to a number of individuals having left or lost jobs in retailing and catering.

    There are still a total of 460 vacancies notified to the Job Centre, with 196 positions still vacant and held on file.
