Young people are being invited to ‘drop-in’ to an Onchan youth project this summer.
Kenyon's Café will open its doors to kids aged ten and above during the first three weeks of the school holidays.
The project - located at the Onchan Hub on School Road - is free and encourgages people to 'drop-in'.
The charity, in partnership with DESCs Youth Service, aims to make the facility, and surrounding area, accessible and engaging for young people with a safe space to socialise and, where necessary, receive support covering aspects of social development, welfare and wellbeing.
Director of Kenyon's Café Martin Macfarlane believes this offering provides a valuable service within the community:
‘Our charity is committed to providing easy to access support, resources and opportunities within our community. For some young people, this project may help to reduce the impact of social anxiety which may be experienced from the lengthy school break.’
As part of the project, youth workers will focus on supporting young people currently in school year 6 who face a transition to high school in September – helping them to develop valuable friendships.
Last summer, the charity worked closely with partners to operate a trial during the holidays creating a hive of activity around Kenyon's with a variety of outdoor sport & fitness activities within The Rec led by an experienced coach.
