Local authorities ‘can help improve community policing’

By Ewan Gawne - Local Democracy Reporter

The Isle of Man Constabulary is looking to build closer ties with local authorities as part of a bid to improve community policing.

Superintendent of Operations Steve Maddocks says commissioners ‘know their patch’ and can help the force ‘nip certain issues in the bud’.

He’s been meeting with authorities across the Island to improve relations, and make clear how they can assist each other.

The constabulary received a boost in funding to the tune of £2.5million in the Manx Government’s 2019 budget, the first real terms increase after a period of austerity stretching back to 2001.

Part of this is intended to support restructuring the force, so officers have more time for community policing.

Superintendent Maddocks is certain that local authorities can help support this drive.
