Local unite boss comments on bus driver pay dispute

The head of the Unite union in the Isle of Man has described this week's crunch talks with government over bus drivers' pay.

Eric Holmes was speaking after the DCCL handed drivers a new contract, which, if they don't accept, could leave them jobless.

Negotiations between the department and the union started in March and, numerous failed ballots later, are still ongoing.

The DCCL says eliminating a paid lunch hour for the drivers would save £300,000 a year.

Some drivers are currently earning an average salary in excess of £40,000.
