Police used PAVA spray to incapacitate burglar

"I'm a criminal, you're cops, you caught me" - that's what a burglar told police when they found him hiding underneath a scaffolding wagon after he'd raided two properties.

37-year-old John Johnson targeted homes on Falcon Cliff Terrace earlier this week- he was disturbed by officers who'd been alerted to the fact someone was trying doors in the area.

Entering through unlocked doors Johnson stole a range of possessions including an eBook reader, a tablet computer and a handbag - in both properties the occupants were asleep.

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday Johnson admitted two counts of burglary from November 11th and resisting arrest.

He pushed a police sergeant when she tried to detain him causing her to fall to the floor - he was then chased by other officers who found him hiding; they used incapacitant spray to arrest him.

Johnson, who's been remanded at the prison, will be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery - he'll next appear before that court on November 23rd.
