A man with no driving licence or insurance who stole his friend’s car and crashed it has been fined and banned from the roads.
Jack Almond of Malew Street in Castletown appeared before Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks at Douglas Courthouse.
The 22 year old pleaded guilty to taking a car without consent, drink-driving, failing to stop after an accident, and having no driving licence or insurance on February 12.
The court heard he’d been drinking at a friend’s house on Cronk Elfin in Ramsey and stole the Renault Megane after his friends went to bed.
However, he crashed into a parked Land Rover and abandoned the car outside CoronationPark - an off-duty police officer spotted it and alerted colleagues.
When police arrived to arrest him, he admitted all offences.
Almond was fined a total of £1,600 as well as being ordered to pay £250 compensation and £125 costs.
Mr Brooks also banned him from driving for 18 months.
