A man who injured a football fan during a fight in a Douglas pub in TT week is starting a prison sentence.
Michael William Steven Hanger of Victoria Street in Douglas appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.
The 30 year old stepped in to defend a friend in the Woodbourne pub on June 1 during the Champions League final, but his advocate said Hanger knew he’d overstepped the mark and had pleaded guilty to affray and assault causing actual bodily harm.
The court heard his victim had suffered significant injuries during the attack.
After hearing Hanger had been convicted of assault less than three months before that incident, Mrs Hughes said only a jail sentence was appropriate.
She sent him to prison for a total of 18 weeks, and banned him from licensed premises or buying alcohol for nine months.
