Money for TV licences available due to low unemployment

Free TV licences for elderly people will be funded thanks to the Island's lower than expected level of unemployment.

That's according to the Treasury Minister who says the money will come from the Social Security Budget.

Earlier this week Tynwald did a U-turn and agreed to pay for the licences for people aged 75 and over.

Alf Cannan told the court in this financial year the money will come from the Job Seekers Allowance and Income Support budgets which have not been as heavily used due to low unemployment rates.
