A new £3m Amenity Site will be built on Island.
To mark the occasion, a ceremony saw politicians from all five authorities - Douglas, Onchan, Braddan, Santon and Garff - attend the site at Middle Park in Braddan.
Designed to take waste and recycling, the facility is being built after the Committee confirmed the current operation in Pulrose, which is used by over half the Island’s population, is at maximum capacity.
The 1.4-hectare site, next to the energy from waste plant, will be publicly owned and operated by the Eastern District Joint Civic Amenity Site Committee
Design and construction of the scheme is being carried out by developer Dandara.
It will provide for the disposal of domestic waste and recycling, and will include improved features to those currently provided - a vehicle weighbridge, site office, re-use shed, skips and parking facilities.
The project is estimated to take 10 months to complete.
