Peel man denies domestic abuse

A Peel man’s appeared in court to deny terrifying his ex-girlfriend during an alleged three-month campaign of drunken domestic abuse.

Jack Edwards of Corrins Way appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.

The 27 year old pleaded not guilty to domestic abuse between March 21 and June 21.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Edwards had verbally abused his girlfriend after using drugs and alcohol, as well as damaging her home – on one occasion he’s said to have punched his way through a bathroom door when she locked herself inside to escape him.

The court heard the incidents led to the end of their relationship, and the woman was left fearing for her life and scared to leave her home.

Magistrates bailed him in the sum of £500 on condition he doesn’t contact his alleged victim or go to her home, and he’s next due to appear in court on September 21.
