People urged to use online tax return system

The deadline for submitting this year’s personal tax return is now just over three months away and the Income Tax Division is reminding the public about its online service.

The internet option enables people to manage their tax affairs from their own home and avoid the potentially large queues at the tax office, particularly in the final weeks before the October 6 deadline.

Users receive their tax returns, assessments and tax codes electronically, can review their balances, pay their tax bills and can now calculate their tax liability immediately after completing their return.

If the Division has not received personal tax returns for the year ended April 5 by October 6, there will be a £100 penalty.

If the return has still not been received by April 6 next year, a further £200 penalty will be charged.

People wishing to register for the online service should visit the government’s website.
