Nearly 90 per cent of Islanders have backed a proposed new 'assisted dying 'law, according to a recent poll.
The poll, carried out by Dignity in Dying - shows 87 per cent of respondents support terminally ill, mentally competent adults being allowed choice of assisted death in their final months.
It also found 75% feel it's important the law is debated politically.
Meanwhile, nearly half (43%) said they would consider an assisted death overseas; a process which can cost in excess of £10,000, and carries a risk of prosecution for loved ones assisting or accompanying them.
Two MHK's - Dr Alex Allinson and Clare Barber support the motion - with Dr Allinson saying the Island has demonstrated 'significant appetite' for further discussion.
Mrs. Barber meanwhile says 'The importance of providing access to a good death cannot be overstated.'
