    Proposed MOT tests polarise public opinion

    There’s mixed reaction to plans which look at introducing compulsory MOT style testing on the Isle of Man.

    A Facebook campaign has been set up encouraging people to fill in the government’s questionnaire which is looking for the public’s feedback.

    The Department of Infrastructure is considering whether or not to introduce additional vehicle road testing – it says it’s in an effort to reduce the risk of road traffic incidents. 

    A number of different arguments have been put forward with some people saying it’s just another way for government to make more money. Others are in support of the idea saying it would boost the Manx motor trade and encourage people to maintain their vehicles to a high standard. 

    Highways director Richard Pearson says the public’s views will be taken into account:
