Proposed tourist tax for Laxey rejected by commissioners

Does Laxey need a tax on visitors to raise money for the area?

That's the suggestion from one commissioner, who suggested charging accommodation providers at the last meeting of the local authority.

Julie Pinson asked for a 'tourism tax' which would see tariffs on tourist accommodation raising money for the board.

Commissioners said the Island currently didn't have laws to bring in such a charge, and it would be a national matter to be determined by Tynwald.
