A seafarer from Ramsey who lost his life a hundred years ago will be remembered at a special ceremony in the town next week.
Private William Corlett died with his crewmates aboard the HMT Merse when it hit a mine and sank near the Isle of Bute on May 22nd, 1917.
His trawler was escorting a British dreadnought to Liverpool for repairs when she was sunk by the mine laid by a German U-boat.
Ramsey Commissioners and the town's Royal British Legion branch will lay a cross at Ramsey's War Memorial in Private Corlett's memory on Monday.
