    Size matters, be careful what you fish for

    Size should matter when anglers decide whether or not to keep a catch.

    That's the message from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture which says keeping an undersize fish - or a trout or salmon of any size caught at sea - is an offence punishable with a fine up to £1,000. 
     
    Bye-laws governing apply to both commercial and leisure fishermen in order to keep stocks sustainable - landing sizes are displayed at harbours for reference and on the government website.
