The Treasury says there were 39,610 benefits claims on the Isle of Man in September.
Minister Alex Allinson gave the figures in response to a question for written answer from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse.
Dr Allinson said the figures included pensions, income support and child benefit as well as widow's benefits and adoption allowance.
He added some people claim more than one benefit.
