Sites Proposed for Sellafield, Heysham and Anglesey
The UK has announced 8 potential sites for future nuclear power stations, with three of them in close proximity to the Island.
If given the go ahead plants at Sellafield, Heysham and Anglesey would be in operation by 2025.
The plans come amid concerns that the UK will reach an energy crisis by the middle of the next decade when many of the existing plants will reach the end of their lives.
In the past there have been concerns regarding the environmental impact that the existing plant in Sellafield has on the Irish Sea and its fish population.
Minister Shimmin said although it’s not good news, it’s not a surprise.
