    UK retailers eyeing up new Strand Street site

    Multiple UK retailers have shown an interest in a new retail unit being built in Douglas town centre.

    The £2 million development at 62-66 Strand Street will provide 5,000 square feet of retail space adjoining Topshop. 
     
    Chapman Chartered Surveyors says it's in discussions with a number of interested parties - in addition new businesses are due to open in Nelson Street and Wellington Street.
     
    Douglas Council has also declared the sale of The Strand Centre as a 'vote of confidence' for the capital's future economic growth - Sports Direct has purchased it and is due to open a store. 
     
    Council leader David Christian says having a retailer with such a "powerful brand" could have the power to "boost trade, attract more new businesses and lead to renewed confidence among existing retailers".
