What to do if you see a baby seal on a beach

The stormy days ahead could mean pups and adults will haul up along the coastline.

The Manx WildlifeTrust is reminding islanders not approach, touch or encourage a seal pup back into the sea.

In addition, dogs in the vicinity of a seal should be kept on a lead.

The organisation said as we head into winter there's an increased likelyhood of storms which could prompt more of the marine mammals to take a rest on the coastline.

A spokesman said: "Mothers will leave their pups, sometimes for hours, but will come back for them- they will however abandon pups if they feel threatened.

"Seals will also head back into the water if they feel threatened, even if they are still tired".

The MWT has a team of seal sitters who observe seals from a distance to make sure they are not disturnbed or injured.

To get in touch you can call 450879 or 844432 during office hours or get in touch via the Facebook page
