Work is set to start on Braddan Bridge today, causing disruption for the rest of the month.
The stretch of Peel Road is to be resurfaced from the junction with Braddan Road to the Braddan Church roundabout, including the Jubilee Oak roundabout.
The Department of Infrastructure says there will be two different traffic management set ups - one on weekdays and one on weekends - as staff work on the site seven days a week.
WEEKDAY ARRANGEMENTS:
Traffic from Union Mills & Saddle Road/Kirby - Braddan Bridge will be made one way west to east (from the Braddan Church roundabout). Peel Road from the Jubilee Oak Roundabout to Quarterbridge will also be one way in the direction of Quarterbridge.
Traffic from Union Mills and the West - will also be able to also turn right at the roundabout towards Saddle Road.
Traffic from Douglas and the East - Traffic from Douglas via the Quarterbridge roundabout will follow a signed diversion route onto New Castletown Road, Saddle Road and to the Braddan Church roundabout. Traffic will be able to turn east onto Braddan Bridge and either back towards Quarterbridge or up Braddan Road (towards Nobles Hospital). Traffic will also be able to turn west towards Union Mills and Peel.
Traffic exiting Braddan Road - will be directed back into central Douglas via the Jubilee Oak roundabout and towards Quarterbridge past Douglas Rugby Club. There will be no right turn back onto Braddan Bridge.
WEEKEND ARRANGEMENTS:
The whole of Braddan Bridge will close to traffic on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be no access between Braddan Road and Braddan Bridge. This is to allow the roundabout at the Jubilee Oak to be resurfaced.
Traffic from central Douglas and the East - West bound traffic from the Quarterbridge roundabout will be diverted onto New Castletown Road to Saddle Road and at the Braddan Church roundabout turn west towards Union Mill and Peel. Access to Nobles Hospital will be via Strang Road. There will be no right turn onto Braddan Bridge.
Traffic from Union Mills - Will turn right at Braddan Church roundabout towards Kirby/Saddle Road only.
Traffic from Braddan Road - There will be no access to Braddan Bridge from Braddan Road at weekends.
The DOI apologises for the disruption these essential works may cause.
