Boy, 15, stabbed to death in Woolwich is named - as two men arrested on suspicion of murder

A 15-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in southeast London has been named - as two men were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The Metropolitan Police said the victim was Daejuan Campbell and his family are being supported by specialist officers.

The two arrested men - aged 52 and 18 - remain in police custody.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance on Eglinton Road, Woolwich, at about 6.30pm on Sunday.

Daejuan was found at the scene with a stab injury and died a short time later.

A witness told how the teenager said "I'm 15, don't let me die" as he lay bleeding.

The 43-year-old woman, who lives in the area, described trying to save the boy as he lay in the road outside her flat.

She told the PA news agency she dashed out of her home in her nightshirt and with nothing on her feet after hearing someone screaming "someone's been stabbed".

She said she saw "someone laying face down on the floor" - a boy who had a gash on his head and a "massive pool of blood" by his leg.

She said she stemmed the flow of blood until paramedics arrived.

The witness added: "I asked if I could go and shower because I was covered in his blood, and they said 'yes' so I went in and showered.

"I come back out and they [the police] called me over because I was the last one with him - he was going to me 'I'm 15, I'm 15, don't let me die' and I said to him 'you're not going to die, mate'."

She said the victim was "the most polite boy" when she had encountered him around their neighbourhood.

Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry said: "My thoughts are with Daejuan's loved ones as they try and come to terms with this heart-breaking incident.

"The investigation into Daejuan's death is still in the early stages and our officers are working around the clock to build a picture of what happened on Sunday evening."
