Man charged with kidnapping and attacking 87-year-old who was thrown from car

A man has been charged with kidnapping and attacking an 87-year-old pensioner.

Shohad Miah has been charged after an incident in Oldham, Greater Manchester, on 15 September in which an elderly man was forced into a car, attacked, and thrown out on to a road in West Yorkshire, miles from his home, in the dark.

It comes after two people were arrested during the police investigation into the attack.

Miah, 24, from Royton, Oldham, has been charged with kidnap, Section 18 GBH, robbery, and intentional strangulation and will appear at Tameside Magistrates' Court on 24 September.

The incident took place in the Lee Street area of Oldham as the pensioner was reportedly walking home.

During the incident, the pensioner was dragged into a black car before being driven around and ended up suffering serious injuries, Greater Manchester Police said at the time.

The force added that the victim was blindfolded and demands were made for his money and personal items, before he was dumped from the vehicle.

A 24-year-old man and a 39-year-old man were previously said to have been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping.

The 39-year-old man was released on bail pending further investigation.
